Everyone knew Madoff was conducting a Ponzi scheme except the government, and liberals want more regulations? But whoever didn't know about Madoff and had money in his "investments" was a fool.

Nope, only a few knew he was scamming. It's that "greed makes you stupid" thing again. He fooled the whole SEC for years, not to mention the thousands he scammed. There are over 8,800 claims against him right now. And most of the few that knew he was scamming were helping him. There's another ten that will probably follow him to the iron bar hotel. His wife

Most of them didn't do anything illegal. How can you send a message to someone who is already going to trial? You mean they are sending a message to future Ponzi scheme masterminds.
