I just got a tattoo recently that says: A MAN CHOOSES on one arm and A SLAVE OBEYS on the other. Some people say that it's "racist" because it has the words "slave" and "obey" in it. it isn't racist at all! not all slavery in the worlds history has been based on race. In most cases, slavery was a place for those without class (economic status) and prisoners of war. Not as any form of justification for slavery in the US, which was racist. But, the slaves were already slaves within their own country when they were sold and brought to the US. This is a fact that is often overlooked

Well, it does appear to have racist connotations because of the Civil Rights movements within the last century, but the "man chooses/slave obeys" adage is, as willbwind stated below, an ultimatum to the individual. It is a testament to freewill; freeing the mind from the enslavement of conformity, rather than physical enslavement and domination.

It's really an ultimatum to the individual: Either submit to someone and be a slave, or think for yourself and be free.
